36 week update journey#5

Not much longer...

I've had a few contractions here and there the past week. Today she was pushing down pretty good and I decided to add this song to my birthing playlist-

Also, my Dr told me not to go into labor over Thanksgiving since he'll be gone next week. Fine by me. I'm not ready to have her until at least December.

I need to pack! And then it's probably best to keep my bag in the car at all times. I was thinking about it today. We live 45 minutes from the hospital. But if we have to go home and get my bag, that's an hour and a half at least. And I've got a party in my bag (once it's packed, ha ha) so we don't want to labor without it.

I hope my IPs will make it in time. Because we aren't being induced, they'll just (hopefully) hop on a plane when I call them. I'm excited for my kids to meet them.

My awesome friend wants to be there when Baby CeCe is born, do does my mom. I'm telling you, it's going to be a birthing party!

Are we pregnant or not? Beta day!

Beta Day April 11, 2014

After blood is drawn, before the results are in-

And then, the results-

I was so nervous waiting for the beta today. I couldn't sleep much last night. Even though all these tests were looking good.

This morning's beautiful test! It was hard to keep these from Lovely Rita. Quite the awesome secret.

You can see that they started out faint and progressively darkened. But I was nervous. The tests are the first part, then the beta needs to be a good number and then it needs to go up, etc. There had been too many times when the years were positive, but the beta was low or the beta was alright, but it ended in a miscarriage or a chemical pregnancy.

But, I think 165 is a GREAT first beta number!
When I heard that's what it was, I immediately put my hand to my mouth and was close to tears. Oh my gosh! We're pregnant!

My daughter painted my nails last night to look like positive pregnancy tests.

Not the best polish, but it was fun.

I am on cloud 9. So happy! I can't believe it! I can't wait for the next beta on Tuesday and then the first ultrasound, etc.

Surrogacy Vlog First Lupron Injection Journey #5

Better than nothing. My phone ran out of space. It hurt a bit going in.
(A little lump appeared about an hour later)  I haven't done a Lupron shot in years and last time I did one, it was in the arm. So obviously, I am starting the injections and this was my first Lupron shot for this cycle. Let the fun begin! It's still a bit surreal at this point.

I received my meds on Friday, February 28. Always exciting!!

Not including the Estradiol which should be coming this week.

I started active Birth Control December 28, 2013. Lovely Rita bought me some awesome whole food prenatal Multi vitamins and Vegan DHA supplements. I started those in February. I started Baby Aspirin and Folic Acid March 1.

This is just my morning dose.

I am excited to go back to Utah Fertility Cevter for my local monitoring. I'm excited to see everyone. I will do my baseline ultrasound next Tuesday and I will have ultrasounds and blood work done once a week to check on things. (My lining and Estrogen and Progesterone levels)

Somewhere out there is an anonymous egg donor prepaying for this same transfer. Only she is preparing her body to donate/release eggs. I wish her the best of luck and I hope she's excited as I am to be on this awesome team.
The egg retrieval should be March 25 and the transfer should be between March 31 and April 3.

Legal wise, we have to do a few things in court to get the contract validated. That ball is ready to roll. As I was reviewing things, I came across my psychological report. I didn't expect to see that. It was nice to see on paper that I am not psychologically impaired. I feel like the psychiatrist was very nice in her report about my husband and I. She even mentioned that I was a surrogacy advocate and had published a surrogacy book.
:)

Well, this is really happening! I sent a picture of all the medications to Lovely Rita earlier this week. She asked if I was ready. I said too late now. Ha ha. Of course I was kidding. I am absolutely ready. But I always get a little nervous. I think mainly about the shots. I don't know why though. I'm a pro by now. I think I'm just anxiously excited about the whole thing, which is totally normal.

Next Stop: Meds & Embryo Transfer #5 Surrogacy Journey

Woohoo! All the important stuff is done and we're good to go.

I want to clear up that this is my 5th journey and 5th couple, but only 2 of the previous journeys were successful. So, high hopes that this is indeed a success. And I don't see why it wouldn't be with an egg donor and no fertility issues. (IM had cancer, but carried previously)

I wanted to add, this contract phase was pretty darn smooth! So nice. And probably my shortest contract yet.
:-)
I was worried it wouldn't get done in time, but we're still on track and good to go.

If I wasn't sick, and if we didn't have contracts to sign and homework due tonight, we would totally be going out to celebrate.

#Surrogacy Screening San Diego Trip & Other Updates #5 Journey

A little update on our journey first (from notes this month)-
January will definitely be a productive month. (predicted in early January)

It is strange to think I have not met these lovely people in real life yet and probably won't until March for the big baby making day! But that's ok! I feel like we are getting to know each other and I feel absolutely confident that we are a great match and team.
It will be extremely powerful when we do meet.

And now the fun stuff:

I went to San Diego over the weekend for my medical screening with the clinic we will be using. (New clinic for me and my IPs and no matter how many times you do this, most clinics like to do a medical screening of their own to make sure you are indeed medically fit to be a surrogate. This usually involves an ultrasound of the uterus and blood work, mainly checking for STD's and anything else that might hinder the journey)

We decided that it would be an overnight visit, because flying in and out same day and making it on time to the clinic in CALIFORNIA traffic was too stressful. For personal reasons and so that the clinic could also do blood work on John, my husband came with me.

San Diego, here we come.

I got some reading in. Of course it's about surrogacy!! Great story, written by a surrogate and her IM. I am not finished, but I could totally relate to how Heidi came about being interested in surrogacy and her IM's story is similar to my current IM's story. I was getting all emotional on the plane.
When we first got to San Diego, it was really cool. We lived there when John was in the Navy. He spent 8 of his 10 years in San Diego. It had been about 6 years since we had been back. The airport had changed a good amount since then. My husband isn't a huge fan of California or San Diego itself, but he was taking it all in, and seemed excited to be back.

He doesn't look his happiest- but he was in awe.
At the car rental, we both had the same "what if" thought of him doing a few more years in the Navy and living there again.

And then we got on the freeway. ( I should have video'd that)

Our first stop, we both agreed, was to Brown Bag Deli in Point Loma.

They have the BEST sandwiches and we had both been craving them since we knew we were going to be in San Diego. We chatted with the owner and she was touched that we would drive from the airport to there first thing.

So, we grabbed our sandwiches to go and asked Siri to help us get to the hotel. I'm helping navigate and we're approaching our destination in about 400 feet.

OOPS, I blinked and there it was. But by the time I saw it, we were forced on the freeway. The fun thing about the freeway in San Diego is that at some points it is not a simple get off the next exit and turn around. Sometimes you have to take a few freeways to get back to the one you were on going the other way. We were told to take a certain street, but that couldn't be right- it was a military base. There's no way and our hotel was on the other side of the road. So round and round we go. (And we are reminded what we didn't like about living in SD, and had I been alone, this would have caused MAJOR ANXIETY)

About an hour later, we get to our hotel. Yay! Let's check in. There's a friendly guy at the front desk, only he says, "Sorry, we don't do check ins until 3:00 and it's 2:30. We don't have a clean room available yet. (But you don't know what we just went through to get here!)

Okay, well, we'll sit in the California sun on the beautiful patio and eat our delicious sandwiches. (which was nice and yummy) And then we checked in.

We decided to take a little nap before picking up pizza and taking it to meet a Navy Wife friend. She married John's Navy buddy who was our roommate at one point. He was married to someone else when we knew him and we have come to know (and LOVE) the new wife on Facebook. I was so excited to meet her in person and give her hugs, especially because her husband is on deployment right now. She was awesome!! I love it when people are even cooler in real life, and she was.

Sunday morning, I wanted to get some pics by the palm tree on the patio at the hotel.

I had to specify I wanted the WHOLE PALM TREE in the picture. Thanks, John! LOL
Then we headed out to a little Surrogate Luncheon. I got to meet a surrogate I knew online and 2 surrogates I had met before when I lived in San Diego. (My first surrogacy was when I lived there in 2005-2006 and one of the friends I got to see again had come to see me and the surrobaby in the hospital and she even got to hold her before I did)

Sunday evening we went to eat Mexican food in Old Town, which is where our hotel was anyway. Great food, and great atmosphere.

Virgin Mango Rita (Get it? Rita?)

Monday, January 27th was the medical screening appointment. (we flew back home later that afternoon)

Because Lovely Rita wasn't able to be there, she asked me to take pictures of everything! Easy for me to do.
 :-)

Outside the clinic with my book

Before the ultrasound- P.S. (TMI) They ended up needing to inflate a balloon to help see everything and to keep the liquid (saline solution) from pooling out, which I guess can happen after having a few kids. That was an experience I don't remember having before. But everything looked great. I was told I have an awesome and smooth uterus!! (No polyps and quiet ovaries like they should be/active birth control is doing it's job)

I left a copy of my book for the clinic. They were excited to add it to their library.

The beginning of many needles & blood draws.

Hubby's get screened too!

The lady (I know her name, just not telling you) at the front desk liked my surrogacy shirt.

Monday, after the appointment, I wanted to go somewhere to do a video update while I was still in San Diego. Balboa Park is a favorite spot of ours, so we went there.

VLOG TIME

I'm aware that sometimes I am a little shy in my videos and quiet. Working on it. If you notice I was louder in the car and the bells ringing at Balboa Park made me talk louder and then I stayed louder. I kind of have a little social anxiety and don't want people to hear me (while I'm filming), and yet I have a blog and do videos. Ha ha!

I  seem to miss so many details when I Vlog, even when I take notes. Hmmm.

So, here's a few add ons-

Lady Madonna found my blog and that's how this team even got started in the first place. How cool is that?

I have been on active birth control for a month and the clinic wants me to start taking Prenatal Vitamins.

We needed to get something to eat before heading to the airport. My absolute favorite place to go in San Diego is Benihana, but we were running out of time. This was called Fuji I believe, and was just as good. I just forgot to take a picture of the rest of my food which is similar to what I would have gotten at Benihana. (steak & shrimp & veggies cooked in garlic butter, Hibachi style)

Back at the airport. John has always liked this statue.

I think things will be pretty quick from here on out. So exciting!! I found out that Lovely Rita should be making their final changes to the contract today before passing it on to me. I will hopefully receive it Friday (tomorrow) or Monday.

I went to take the (I'm not pscyho exam) yesterday, January 29th.
(surrogates have to pass medical & psychological screenings) The actual visit is a LONG blog post in itself, with a few miscommunication errors, but I'm pretty sure I passed, because after a few questions, the lady went from frowning (I felt like I was on trial at first) to smiling like she was confident I knew what I was doing.

WOW, holy long blog post! Thanks for stopping by and a big thank you if you made it all the way through.

The Polka Dot Package

Lovely Rita told me she was headed out with a polka dot package last week to send my way.

I was stumped as to what she meant by "polka dot package".

Then a few days ago I was going through emails and noticed an attachment I hadn't seen before. It was Lovely Rita and her sweet little boy holding a polka dot package. Cutest picture ever!

I saved it to my phone and awaited the arrival of the polka dot package.

Guess what came today?

I don't think I showed the chocolates. They were yummy!! I only had a small bite, but oh my gosh!

I haven't met my IPs yet, but to see her with the package and have it arrive with sweet notes & gifts was an awesome human connection.

More progress! So exciting!

I remembered what I wanted to add-
I love how my IM is always on top of things and so thorough! It's awesome! And I appreciate it. She's been super busy getting all this set up to get to where we are now. I get so excited to see her emails and hear what the latest update is.

New beginnings (journey #5, #surrogacy Vlog update)

I believe that everything happens for a reason. I still miss my former IPs, but I've been blessed with a new match that I believe was made in Heaven. So many things are lining up nicely and falling into place. I am truly grateful and so excited for this new adventure. We are going to use my first and favorite RE. I think we are putting together a great team!

So, this was on Tuesday, but IM called today and we'll be using a different clinic with better success rates. We were originally discussing a medical screening in January, now that has been moved up a bit.

(Her call totally made my day. She is adorable! I love how well we get along and how we truly work together as a team. I feel the trust and respect which is so important in a good relationship. I can't wait to meet them in person!)

Vlog update-

Thanksgiving Thankful Vlog

A Thankful Thanksgiving Vlog for you!

I'm kinda shy and quiet sometimes. I had a heckuva time uploading this, but hooray for actually posting it ON Thanksgiving! Better late than never.

I forgot to mention I am thankful for music! It brings me so much joy.
Especially the Beatles.

Anyone up for sending me a video reply of what you're thankful for?

What happened after the 3rd transfer?

Hello. I have been MIA on here. It's just too darn easy to update on my FB blog page.

I apologize. I haven't updated on here what happened after the 3rd transfer with my awesome couple. I didn't even blog about the transfer itself which was amazing really. We had everything stacked in our favor. We even did acupuncture which was awesome and helped me obtain a super thick, comfy cozy uterus. I did the whole pineapple thing before and after. Colored my hair purple and green for good luck, painted my nails to match, made us all new t-shirts, etc.  I felt extra close to my couple the 3rd round and we all felt really good about it. Only 1 of the 2 remaining embryos survived the thaw.

I of course took a "few" pregnancy tests at home which were all positive.

The beta was positive but low, so we played that game for a little bit.

I figured I'd get raw and real and Vlog about what happened.

P.S. I wish nothing but the best for them and can only imagine how they are feeling. My heart aches for them.

A surrogate and her meds

So the last transfer in February (couple #4) ended in a chemical pregnancy.
:(

I am so used to doing shots and it was my first shot-free protocol. Kind of nice, but suppositories aren't all that fun. Call me crazy, I requested the shots for round 2.

I got my meds last week and there was a mix up. I explain in the 2nd video.

Here I am getting my medication delivery yesterday. (The correct one, hopefully)

Now let's see what's inside....

This gives you a good idea of what a surrogate goes through and the meds she takes.

Hopefully Round 2 is it for us. I'm thinking we'll be doing an embryo transfer in May.
