Pills and Insurance

Have I ever told you how much I *love* our insurance?

I went to pick up my 14 year old son's medication. Well one of 3. He had to recently see the Dr. to get the prescriptions re-written. He wasn't out of the 3rd one yet, so we didn't fill it. Then he tells me he's been out for a few days. Not only that, but he's lost the empty bottle. Oh, but I have a written prescription, yay!!!

14 year old son stays home while I go to the store. He's having a bit of a breakdown over cleaning his room. It's a bit out of whack, but oh yeah, he's not quite balanced without all his pills.

I drop off the prescription, do a little shopping while I wait. Go to pick it up. I am told I can't, because son's insurance was terminated, he's not an insured patient, etc. Um, what? I ask "Did you run it through Tricare?" (We haven't been with Tricare since 2008, but everyone seems to think we still are for some reason.) She checks... she says something again about not being covered. I ask again if she billed Tricare. It sounds like she did. So I let her know again we are NOT with Tricare, I guess she thought I said we were. Either way I tell her who we are with and she gets the same message. Not covered, coverage terminated 6/30/11.

Really? How's that? I just refilled the rest of his pills about 2 weeks ago and filled one for myself just last week. There's nothing she can do to help me, except offer to sell me the pills I need for my son at $200. No thanks. She tells me he'll have to call the insurance. I say "Yeah, he's not going to call."  She means my husband not my son. Yeah, he won't be calling either, but ok, thanks.

So I pull over, call hubby, can't reach him. So I call the lovely number on the back of my insurance card. They confirm that my son's coverage was terminated on 6/30/11. I ask "WHY"? They don't know, it doesn't show a reason. Ah, lovely! So I ask if it's just him or the whole family. She looks us up one by one and looks like we were all terminated. What the heck? She gives me another number to call. This is getting fun.

Next number I call says we are all covered. We're not showing as being terminated. They don't know what's going on. Oh yay, so I'm stuck in limbo with one person saying we're covered, another saying we're not. And yet the pharmacy is going off of the one saying we're not. I'm waiting to hear back what's going on so I can hopefully pick up his prescription before 9:00 PM tonight. The lady was super nice and tried to reach someone who could help me. She understood that this wasn't a pill you should just stop taking and go without. In the meantime I'm sick to my stomach. Luckily I found an extra pill for him to take to try and calm down and balance him a bit. After all that, I could use a pill.

Goodnight Already!

I told them to go to bed and I told them to be quiet. What don't they understand? It's ridiculous that I have to go out there every 5 minutes and tell them to be quiet or tell them to turn off the tv or get off the computer. It makes me want to scream. What's worse is when John and I are in bed and they come in. Door's shut, door's locked. They unlock it, open it and walk in. OR they knock. If they know we've gone to bed they shouldn't be knocking. Once that door is closed, they should stay out. During the day, yes please knock. They should  never unlock the door and come in unless it's an emergency.

If I were trying to sleep right now it would be giving me a headache. Poor hubby IS asleep, but hasn't been sleeping very good lately.

I tell them goodnight. I go to my room. They gather in the hall and bug each other. They're fighting over who gets to sleep with the dog. Well her kennel has been in the girls' room for a few days, so I'd imagine it's Jeremy's turn. They already asked me and I already told them. But Jessica claims it's her turn. I simply state that it is Jeremy's turn. Once again I say "goodnight, time to be quiet, etc."

Less than 2 minutes and more noise. "I'm starting to think that your ears don't work, that you can't hear me, that I'm some invisible person that isn't talking", I say. They just look at me for a minute. Jeremy's got the kennel and the dog and apparently they're still fighting over the issue. UGH, the dog gets to sleep with Jeremy. GOODNIGHT! Little Jessica gives me a 10 minute hug. I walk the girls to their room. Goodnight, the end, end of story I tell them dramatically.

Our holiday weekend... Hope you all had a wonderful 4th of July!

This post got put off, since I wanted to be prompt with my review... so here ya go...
(Last weekend obviously)

We had a crazy weekend with my 10 year old daughter getting sick with a kidney infection. However, inbetween her antibiotics that gagged her and her sleepiness/throwing up phases, she had some energy every now and then.

She doesn't complain much, so when she said she had hip pain, we kept an eye on things. When she started throwing up at a funeral, we knew we better take her to urgent care. Her fever was 101 and we were told she had a UTI and she had thrown up 3 times by then. They gave her a shot to help the nausea and we were sent to the ER to get an IV with fluids and antibiotics since they figured at this point it was probably a kidney infection.

Since I document almost everything...Here are some pics at Urgent Care:

*stay with me till the end please*

We get to the ER and she threw up in the parking lot... #6. Her temp is 103.9. They hooked her up to an IV and gave her some motrin, Rocephen and fluids. She slept most the day. It took them awhile to get her temp down.We were finally able to go home around midnight.

Feeling a little better.

She is such a sweetie. She's my best friend. I love the relationship we have, and I hate seeing her hurt or sick. She's been holding my hand all weekend. I love it! I'm so glad to see her perking up a little more each day. We were able to take her to a parade on Saturday.

We got airbrushed tattoos.

We took fireworks to my mother in law's sunday. She even got to light a few.

First we roasted marshmallows.....

Now that's it's a week later, you'd hardly notice she was sick. YAY!

Garbage Bags: Getting your child to listen to you and not the laptop

Maybe you can relate.

Do your kids listen to you when you ask them to do something?

Do they listen the first time?

Do you sometimes sing embarrassing songs to your kids?

Do they ignore you and keep playing on the laptop?

Do you have to threaten them with naked baby pics?

Here's a re-enactment of what happened a few weeks ago... I had to pay my son to be in the video with me. I told him, "Trust me, I'll be more humiliated than you..." He chose to not say much in the video... but that's pretty much how it happened, although when it really happened, he said... "Mom, I should put this on youtube and embarass you." He was absolutely mortified because of what I said about putting the pic on facebook... but then you see what happens.

Enjoy.....

Surrogacy update, life and health

So, I've been kind of boring. I even went a month between posts. You must all hate me. Not really, but I thought I'd be dramatic. Maybe you're a little disapponted? Maybe you forgot I even exist?

Well, here's the updates:

I am still unable to find insurance that will cover me as a surrogate. So after going over the few options, I realized there was only one way to go. That would be to not use insurance, and to have the IP's (intended parents) pay "cash" for the medical fees. Sometimes, I think a cash discount plan is better than even having insurance. We pay alot in premiums, copays, etc. We can hardly afford our premiums, let alone go see a Dr.

Anyway, I got sidetracked. I've been making calls, collecting information. So far, I've only been able to connect with my ob/gyn's office.  The lady there was helpful and gave me a breakdown of costs.  I thought it actually sounded pretty decent. Now these were just the Dr.'s fees for visits and the delivery. She gave me the price for ultrasounds, etc. It all sounded reasonable. I just have to get the fees for the hospital stay and anesthesiologist, etc. Some of you may think I'm crazy, but I think it's going to be just about the same as if I had insurance and they were paying all the premiums, copays, deductibles. I was told about a pay out plan aawhile back. You pay $XX for the plan, they pay out $XXXX if you are hospitalized, for whatever reason. They do not care if you are a surrogate, how you got pregnant, etc. I already talked to this guy and he made it sound like this plan would work for me, etc. I thought it sounded great, but then I said, what about Dr. visits? Oh I don't know what you'd do about that... I was so excited that I thought I had found something to COVER the surrogacy and all the maternity costs. But I think we could do this along with the cash discount for the visits and everything else. At least that would be some kind of coverage.

You would think that it would get easier each time. I mean technically, I 've been a surrogate 3 times now. Each surrogacy has it's complications, it's hold ups. I'm not even matched yet!  Gotta get this all squared away first. Hoping to be matched this Fall though.    :)

Other news?

I'm still battling sinus issues. Headaches, pain, pressure. Going to an ear nose and throat specialist this week. No fun, but hopefully I'll get some answers soon and get all of this resolved.

I am trying to finish out the school year with the kids. I will keep them somewhat inovled over the summer with some kind of schooling. It's been a great homeschooling year. We are planning a family vacation for Fall and I can't wait. We are going to California- Disneyland, etc. We are ALL finding ways to earn/save money to go. It will be a good experience.

I'll try not to keep you waiting as long for my next post....

XOXOXOXOXOXO,

Mormon Surrogate

My poor sweet baby :(

Ok so we got to Urgent Care and all of a sudden she has to throw up. (we went in for a fever of 103.3 and a headache for the past 2 1/2 days) So add that to her symptoms.

They asked a few questions, tested for Strep, came back negative, tested for Flu, came back negative. Tested her urine- Kidney Infection! She's 6! They started her on an aggresive treatment, starting with shots in both of her legs. I just wanted to cry right along with her. Poor thing couldn't walk or feel her legs basically for a few hours. We just had to carry her around. (Dr. said that would probably happen) She wanted to send her to Primary Children's Hospital, but said if we could keep her hydrated and check back in tomorrow around the same time, she'd let her go home.

She is not herself. She's just this sad little hurt girl. She's crashed out on my bed now.

:(

Sorry, low quality phone pics.. blown up.

Here she is on the 2nd day back at Urgent care.

She had perked up for a bit... until they gave her the shots again.

Introducing the rest of the family...

Married to: John

We knew each other in middle school. Started dating in high school and have been together ever since. I will post our detailed story another time. He is a welder. He joined the Navy when we were both 21 and had not even been married a year. He was a Damage Controlman (DC) in the Navy. Basically he was in charge of repairing the ship if need be during battle. For instance, if there was a hole in the side of the ship, we would have to find any means to repair that hole. He was also in charge of teaching all the other sailors fire-fighting skills. He was on the USS John Hancock in Mayport Florida from 1999-2000. (deccomissioned the ship) He was on the USS Shiloh in San Diego from 2000-2003.He was a recruitor in West Valley Utah from 2003-2003. He was on the USS Arco in Point Loma (sub-base) from 2003-2006. He was on the USS Pelileu in San Diego from 2006-2008. He got out of the Navy October 30, 2008. He now is a welder/pile driver for a great company. He can do just about anything. He is very good with projects. He can think it and actually make it come to life. He is a hard worker! He is sarcastic and funny. He has very little patience. He is extremely good looking! :) He is by far my very best friend!

Oldest child: Jeremy (boy-12)
Such a mix. He is ADHD, has dealt with depression and anxiety since he was about 7, possibly bi-polar. He has a learning disability and school is hard and frustrating for him. If things don't happen the way he expects them too, his world comes crashing down. He is very sensitive which can be good and bad. He is not always easy to get along with or understand where he's coming from, but if you take the time to get to know him and give him a chance he is really sweet and really smart. He is also very creative and has a fun sense of humor. He makes up songs for the dog and dances with her. He loves Legos and made me the Beatles out of his legos for a birthday party decoration.. it was so cool! He will blow you away with information on some very interesting stuff.

Middle child: Tristan (girl-9)
She is my helper girl. She's a little mommy. I can depend on her at least 90% of the time. She is responsible and very mature for her age. She can be very good with her little sister. She is sometimes shy. She's a wonderful student and seems to really love school. There was a time when she would get extremely angry about something and would become fuming mad. Her pupils would become huge and all you could see was black in her eyes. I was very concerned. Dr's didn't find anything wrong with her. She is better with that, but there are still times where she gets so mad, she shuts down and you can't seem to reach her. Is that a sign of bi-polar? It runs strong in our family. She loves karaoke. She likes Pink and Hannah Montanah. She loves playing the drums on Beatles Rock Band.

Baby: Jessica (girl-5)
My little clone. She is so much like me. She looks like me when I was little.(Only she is not shy like I was) She even became a Beatles fan at a young age. She was singing Beatles songs when she was 1 1/2. I am not kidding! She thinks Paul McCartney is her boyfriend and she used to have John Lennon as her imaginary friend. She is very loving and loves to sing. She makes up songs at least once a day. She is hardly ever in a bad mood unless her brother or sister are picking on her. She hates cleaning her room.
She's my little monkey. She was even born "year of the monkey" She is fun and silly and I hope she never grows up.
